Ok ok ok…it’s just a typical turmeric latte, but it is true that the key ingredients – turmeric, ginger and cinnamon, are amazing natural anti-inflammatory agents and help to “put the fire out” in your body. They are also immune system allies!
Inflammation and immune system dysfunction, are early indicators of disease, so we want to flood our bodies with plant foods and plant medicine on the daily to keep on top of things. Prevention is the best cure; these foods can do a lot for you in a healing journey too.
I started making these 5ish years ago when I began my whole foods healing journey.
It is such a lovely warming drink on a cold day and the colour makes me happy too!
I go for organic when ever I am able to – organic spices are sooo fragrant, vibrant and delicious. Bulk food stores tend to have the freshest spices and herbs so long as they have a good turn over. I like to shop at GoodFor or Everyday Goodness in Nelson.
This recipe is for two peeps…
Ingredients:
1 heaped tsp turmeric powder or 4cm turmeric root
1 heaped tsp of ginger powder or 2cm ginger root
1 heaped tsp Ceylon cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 generous tsp coconut oil
A generous pinch of black pepper
2 cups of plant milk of your choice
Honey or coconut sugar to serve.
Extra cinnamon to sprinkle on top is a lovely touch too!
Method:
Add all ingredients into a blender or Thermomix and blend on high until smooth.
If using a blender, pour blended liquid into a pot, stir while heating, but do not boil.
In a Thermomix – set timer to 5 mins, temp 90 deg, speed 3. Blend again at the end to froth.
Pour into mugs and add honey or coconut sugar to your liking.
